Game Day Pita Pizza & Breadsticks

It happens all the time, but especially on a day filled with the sights and sounds of FOOTBALL! Your spouse orders pizza. Oooey, gooey, easily 300 or more calories a slice, fattening pizza. With the smells of this temptation filling your home it is easy to talk yourself into self-indulgence. Maybe your whole family is as blind as the replacement refs and you won’t be outed for cheating a little but YOU will still know. Before you realize it, you will have totally killed your caloric intake goal for the day.

On game day, treat yourself with a celebration beer. Not a fatty piece of pizza. Next time, try this personal pita pizza recipe. It keeps you munching with the group while cheering your team to the red-zone, no flags for your waistline buddy!

Ingredients:                                                             

2 Slices of Flaxseed Pitas

Pizza Sauce

Olive Oil

Mrs. Dash Italian Seasoning

Parmesan

Your Choice of Toppings – Ham, Chicken, Onion, Green Pepper, etc.

Directions:

Pre-Heat Oven to 375 degrees. Place both pitas on a cookie sheet. Pour a tiny bit of olive oil on top of each and spread to the pitas edges with a spoon. Sprinkle with Italian Seasoning and place in oven for 2 minutes.

While baking, dice your chosen toppings and set aside.

Pull pitas from the oven. Add a small spoon of pizza sauce on 1  pita and spread. Sprinkle parmesan on the other pita and set aside.

Take the pizza sauce covered pita and top it with all the diced fixings you just chopped. Sprinkle with a bit of parmesan and place both pitas back into the oven until cheese begins to melt and toppings are warm. For me & my oven, it is roughly 3 minutes or less.

Pull from oven and slice breadsticks into strips. Slice your pizza into 4 pieces. Grab your sauce and get back to cheering on your team!

Use remaining pizza sauce for dipping!
